The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) sent a petition to
Congress that was signed by 900 companies. They are demanding that Congress
increase the number of H-1B visas and to speed up approvals of employment
based green cards (EB).
AILA seems to be asking for the Skil Bill but they don't mention it by
name. That's odd considering they are lawyers. Either their strategy is to
keep the name of the bill secret, which doesn't make sense since it is
being sent to Congress, or perhaps something else is brewing on Capitol
Hill. Could there be another deal going on besides the Skil Bill?
I was forwarded a copy of the petition from a board member of FAIR, who
received it from a source in Congress. That confirms AILA is actively
circulating this to Congress critters.

A very noticeable thing about the letter is that most of the companies are
not the ones you would normally associate with H-1B. There is no IBM,
Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, Motorola, Intel, etc. There are plenty of
small to mid-size companies in high tech, medical, contracting, insurance,
and just about everything else you can think of. Apparently these smaller
companies are AILA's "grass roots" supporters. That's a repulsive thought!
Random checks to see if these companies have Labor Condition Applications
for H-1B visas was positive most of the time. That means they are currently
using H-1Bs or want to hire some, and just can't get enough of them.

AILA is up to other shenanigans as well. They are asking the public to send
members of the lame duck Congress a message to provide what they call EB
and H-1B relief. In other words, AILA wants to help employers to relieve us
of our jobs by importing more cheap labor.
AILA allows people to change the text of the message, so if you want to
have some fun, and mess with their heads a little, go to this page, and
send your anti-support message.
