Cornell asks DoD for extension of deadline

<<<<< JOB DESTRUCTION NEWSLETTER No. 1572 -- 10/17/2006 >>>>>
We did a good job at ambushing the cheap labor lobby by flooding the DoD
with comments. I think we won an impressive battle at least from a PR point
of view. It's difficult to judge whether our comments will change the DoD's
behavior or their proposal but one thing for sure, the cheap labor lobby
fully recognizes that we may be a hindrance to their plans.
To coin a military phrase, we are now on their radar screens!
I commend all of you that took time out from your busy lives to send an
email to voice your concerns about the DoD proposal to reduce security
requirements for foreign workers that are used on defense contracts. Let's
all celebrate, but not for long because the cheap labor lobby is already
gearing up for a counterattack.
An attorney at Cornell University has asked for an extension of the
deadline and the OSD granted the request.
Cornell's move is an opening salvo for universities and big business to
mount an all-out campaign to push their point of view on the DoD. Millions
if not billions of dollars are at stake so expect them to take the threat
we pose to their bottom line very seriously.
We must all work together to make sure their plan backfires, and to do that
it means we are going to have to mount another email campaign. That will
give all of you that didn't participate last time a chance to join the
fray.
Soon I will publish a newsletter on how you can take advantage of the
extension of the deadline. I will also provide more analysis of ivory tower
conspiracy to gut our national security and to replace American workers.
ATTENTION ALL PATRIOTS: Prepare to man your keyboards!
The Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) sent me this letter, and
Michael Kimberly gave permission to share it. Don't think for a second that
Kimberly is asking for an extension for our benefit. Fortunately we can
take advantage of his efforts. If this were chess, Cornell has opened with
a King's gambit. Stay tuned for more!

In follow up to our conversation this morning, I am writing to request a 20
day extension to respond to the DFARS proposed rule issued August 2006 or
until Thursday, November 2, 2006. This request is necessitated by the fact
that our lead attorney on this matter is out of the country and out of
communication until Tuesday, October 24, 2006. Please let me know as soon
as possible whether this request has been granted.
Thank you.
