<<<<< JOB DESTRUCTION NEWSLETTER No. 1490 >>>>>

On 5/12/06 I published a newsletter titled "shoddy report by NPR" because
National Public Radio did a terrible report about H-1B on "All Things
Considered". I called upon all of you to email NPR to complain about their
biased coverage and to demand a show that tells our side of the story.

Many of you rose to the challenge by writing some very good letters to "All
Things Considered" - and NPR reciprocated!

On May 24 NPR broadcasted a new report titled, "Critics: High-Tech Visas
Cheat U.S. Workers". You can listen to the story by going to this page:

Critics: High-Tech Visas Cheat U.S. Workers (4:30)

To listen to the 8.5 minute sound clip of the shoddy first report go to
this link:

The NPR show "All Things Considered" read two "letters to the editor"
concerning their biased story on H-1B. To listen to the letters, go to this
link:
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5415825

I wrote a letter to Jennifer Ludden and hope all of you follow up with a
positive letter about their report. Those of you who wrote to NPR had a
very large impact as evidenced by the May 24th show. Let's complement them
on their good work and encourage them to do more shows on H-1B. In view of
the impending disaster in Congress posed by S. 2611, we need all the press
coverage we can get!

Your letter should be sent to two places:

1) email Jennifer Ludden: jludden@npr.org

2) Send an online message to the NPR staff.

Go to http://www.npr.org/contact/
Click the button that says "NPR Program"
Select "All Things Considered" from the dropdown list

Jennifer Ludden,

My faith in NPR was partially restored when I heard your May 24th report:
"Critics: High-Tech Visas Cheat U.S. Workers".

I'm very pleased that you did a show that featured our point of view, but
at the same time I am very disappointed that you didn't interview at least
one or two victims of H-1B. I'm talking about the Americans who have lost
their career and livelihood because they were displaced by H-1Bs. Matloff,
Krikorian, and Miano were excellent choices for your panel of experts but
to understand the entire story your audience needs to hear from people in
the trenches.

Surely you could have interviewed one or two Americans who have been
displaced by H-1B instead of giving so much time to shills like Lande and
Chiswick. In your first show, and in the LTEs you gave plenty of time to
the H-1B named Gatindar so I see no reason that you couldn't do an
interview with one of the Americans he probably replaced. These are human
stories that would be of great interest to your audience.

That show was a step in the right direction and I hope you continue to
pursue the H-1B story. Keep in mind that there are many other types of
workers who come here on H-1Bs including doctors, nurses, school teachers,
fashion models, accountants - and even journalists! This is a very big
story that you could delve into.

Now that the Senate has approved S. 2611 the H-1B story will take on a new
dimension. Please stay on top of this story because most of the mainstream
media will probably concentrate on amnesty or border security. You could
really carve a niche for your show if you gave the public more information
about H-1B, and don't forget that the bill creates a new visa called F-4
and it calls for a huge expansion of employment based Green Cards.

Don't hesitate to contact me if you need more information.
