If any of you have any doubt about whether we have a free press and if
you wonder if our Democracy is in jeopardy, then the press conference
with President Bush today should erase those doubts. Bush stood in a
roomful of reporters, and yet they never asked Bush questions that
matter. This press conference was nothing less than a scripted
propaganda party among Washington DC insiders where our corporate
controlled press played the game by Bush's rules.
Oh sure, they lobbed Bush one softball question about the economy and
his response was that our economy is OK. His only major concern was
that small-business owners are paying a lot for gasoline. Sheesh,
that's the only worry that Bush has about an economy that is falling
apart? What about today's dismal stock market drop?
Bush voiced his support for CAFTA, and yet not a single follow-up
question was asked on any of the free-trade agreements that Bush is
cramming down our throats, and why he thinks that sending our jobs to
other nations will be good for Americans.
A couple of years ago I visited China, and watched a lot of communist
controlled television. The only time I saw a show that rivaled the Bush
news conference was a documentary that praised Mao Tse-Tung because he
dug some water-wells for a couple of poor village people. Most of the
Chinese news stories were far more informational than watching that
charade with Bush and his lapdog reporters. I'll give the Chinese
communists credit for one thing - unlike the cabal in D.C. they have
learned how to make plausible propaganda.
Listed below are just a few topics that were never brought up by our
docile press. If you think I'm exaggerating, look at the entire
transcript yourself.
Bush was not asked a single question about the following topics:
jobs
the stock market
outsourcing
free trade agreements
immigration and/or border control issues
guest-worker visas

QUESTION: I'd just like to ask simply, what's your view of the economy
right now?
QUESTION: First quarter growth came in weaker than expected. There have
been worries about inflation and lower spending by consumers.
Are these basically just bumps in the road, in your opinion, or are
they reasons for some real concern? And could they affect your agenda
on Social Security?
BUSH: You know, I appreciate that.
I am concerned about the economy because our small-business owners and
families are paying higher prices at the gas pump. And that affects the
lives of a lot of people.
We need to continue to open up markets for U.S. products. As you know,
there'll be a vote for the Central American Free Trade Agreement here,
hopefully soon.
I'm a strong believer that that's in the interest of American job
creators and workers that we open up those markets.
I know it's important geopolitically to say to those Central American
countries, You've got a friend in America.
