Here are some webpages worth checking out:
Presidential Candidates
I constantly get requests from people that want to know if there is a webpage that lists where the presidential candidates stand on immigration issues. This is the best I have seen so far.
http://www.betterimmigration.com/candidates/
Pay particular attention to the "import workers" row. The results aren't very encouraging because the only candidate that seems to be against the importation of workers is Kucinich. Kucinich hasn't spoken out against H-1B or L-1 in the debates, but his voting record speaks for itself. Unfortunately Kucinich supports amnesty but so does every other candidate.
By looking at Kucinich's voting record on this site it is easy to see why he got a good rating:
2003: Voted against worker importation program Rep. Kucinich voted against the Singapore Free Trade Agreement, H.R. 2739 that would permit an unlimited number of tech and professional workers to enter the U.S.
on L-1 visas. H.R. 2739 passed by a vote of 272-155.
1998: Voted for an amendment to H.R.3736 to reduce worker importation.
Rep. Kucinich voted for an amendment to H.R.3736 (the Watt substitute) that would have forbidden U.S. firms from using temporary foreign workers to replace Americans. The substitute failed 177-242.
1998: H.R.3736, opposed doubling of H-1B foreign high-tech workers.
Rep. Kucinich opposed passage of H.R.3736, which ultimately increased by nearly 150,000 the number of foreign workers that high-tech American companies could hire over the next three years.
H-1B Complaint Form
The Department of Labor posted an H-1B complaint form for reporting violations of the law:
http://www.dol.gov/esa/forms/whd/WH-4.pdf
This has been one of the DOL's best kept secrets because I haven't ever seen the form, and neither have any other activists that I have ever talked to. We don't know when the DOL put this form online but it expired on 11/30/2003.
The form probably expired because items (m) - (p) were only for "H-1B dependent" companies. Dependency regulations only applied to less than 1% of U.S. employers, and they expired as of November 2003. For the vast majority of companies it has always been legal to to the
following:
* Employers can lay off U.S. workers and replace them with H-1Bs.
* Employers can place H-1B workers at another employer's worksite where U.S. workers were laid off or replaced with H-1Bs.
* Employers don't have to show preference to U.S. workers over H-1Bs and they aren't even required to interview U.S. workers to see if there is a qualifed American worker that is fit for the job.
It would be interesting if people would mail this form to the DOL despite the fact that it's expired. If anybody follows through on this, please tell me what happens. Keep in mind that if you check m-p they will probably discard your complain. Your complaint will have a better chance if you have valid complaints on the other check boxes.
Offshoring Video
The PBS Jim Lehrer show had an excellent story on offshoring that not many people saw. Now it's online and it's worth your time to watch it.
Jobs Moving Offshore
Cost-conscious American companies are increasingly moving high-paying service-sector jobs overseas.

Sanchez vs. Endelman
OK, now some time for blatant self-promotion. I engage in a debate with an immigration lawyer on the ILW website - the church of the immigration lawyers. They put all of my text in one big ugly paragraph, but at least they printed it.

I also had a debate awhile back with Greg Siskind - one of the most infamous of the H-1B shill lawyers. To see that debate, go to their homepage and enter this into their search engine:
"rob sanchez" siskind
also search for:
"norm matloff" randolf and click on June 27, 2003
