This message was sent by New Jersey State Senator Shirley Turner. She
needs the support of New Jersey voters on Nov. 4th.
My recommendations are:
Shirley Turner - vote YES
Upendra Chivukula - vote NO
Voting this way will send a message to the NJ state legislature that
politicians who support the offshoring of state jobs will pay a
political price.

> Subject: Anti-outsourcing S1349/A2425 Sen. Shirley Turner
As you may be aware, I am continuing my efforts to pass legislation in
New Jersey that would prohibit outsourcing of public contracts. You
have previously contacted me in support of this issue, and I hope that
you will accept this communication to update you on my efforts.
Since introducing my bill S1349/A2425, the media has taken a great
interest in this issue. Although the bill passed the Senate
unanimously, it was held up in the Assembly State Government Committee,
and did not move before the New Jersey Legislature recessed in July
2003. Many of you were as incensed as I that a lot of false
information was printed in media outlets overseas about my bill and my
efforts. I have worked to keep the issue alive and have done numerous
interviews to promote my bill. Having heard from thousands of
individuals who have lost their jobs due to outsourcing, I am more
determined than ever to see my bill become law. While I realize that
it will have only a small effect on jobs sent overseas, I still believe
that it is sending an important message that such practices must be
stopped. The only way to improve the economy in New Jersey and
throughout our nation is to keep Americans working. That is a primary
focus for me. The Legislature will be back in session after the
November 4 election, at which time I will be pushing my bill with full
force. I want to see my bill pass the Assembly and signed by the
Governor before the end of the year.
Before our "lame duck" session begins, I must make it through campaign
season, which is quickly coming to an end. I want to take this
opportunity to ask you for your support for my reelection. In the 15th
Legislative
District of New Jersey, I represent Ewing, Hopewell, Lawrence,
Pennington, Princeton, and Trenton. If you, or anyone you know, live
in this area, I hope that I can count on your votes on November 4. I
am looking forward to continuing my service in the State Legislature
and want to ensure that the best interests of New Jersey's working
families are secure. Thank you so very much for all of your support
and encouragement regarding S1349.
Sincerely,
Shirley K. Turner (Democrat)
Senator - 15th District
New Jersey Legislature
