H-1B/L-1 Issue on CNN Moneyline

CNN Moneyline will have a segment on H-1B/L-1 visa today at 6 pm and 11
pm EST. (The shows are time shifted so check your local TV schedule).

CNN reporter Kitty Pilgrim interviewed Ron Hira of IEEE-USA for about
10 minutes. CNN didn't give him a guarantee that he will be on the
show. Most of the questions were very basic and Ron mentioned that they
were "very confused about what an L-1 visa is".

Ron's bio is is below. He wrote a paper worth reading called "Offshore
Outsourcing of Engineering: Implications for Innovation Policy". There
are some charts and graphs that show some very disturbing trends.

Ron Hira is a Research Scholar at Columbia University's Center for
Science, Policy, and Outcomes (www.cspo.org). Ron will join the Public
Policy faculty at the Rochester Institute of Technology in September,
2003. Ron's research interests include engineering labor markets and
technology policy. Some of his recent presentations and papers can be
downloaded from www.cspo.org.

Ron has a Ph.D. in Public Policy from George Mason University, M.S. in
Electrical Engineering also from GMU, and a B.S. in Electrical
Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University. Ron started his career as
an electrical engineer with Sensytech Corporation. He has also worked
as a program manager at NIST and has consulted with the RAND
Corporation, General Motors Research Labs, Enterprise Integration Inc.,
and Deloitte and Touche. Ron is a licensed professional engineer, and
is currently Chair of the R&D Policy Committee of IEEE-USA
(www.ieeeusa.org).

Ron is proud to be a second generation electrical engineer and has
personal knowledge about the ways in which government policies impact
engineering careers.
