Russ Wiles,

That's an intersting article but as usual you and the AZR are oblivious
about the issues. Silverline is a bodyshop and those Indians at Silverline
are H-1Bs. They took 100 jobs that Arizona programmers like me need. I hope
you follow up on them and make sure they are deported because that is the
law. Once they lose their jobs their visas go out of status.

I doubt if any of you know what I'm talking about so go to my website to
find out: www.ZaZona.com

Also use the LCA Database that I put online because I'm the first one in the
World to do so. My database has been reported in many major newspapers all
over the nation - except for the AZR. All you need to do is to enter the
keyword "Silverline" on the Advanced search engine and you will find out why
I know that they were H-1Bs.

I really wish the AZR would start reporting on the real reason so many
Arizonans can't find decent employment.

Rob Sanchez

Workers unpaid at tech firm's Phoenix office

A technology-outsourcing firm that operates in Phoenix and includes American
Express among its top clients is facing a cash crunch and reportedly hasn't
paid employees for several weeks.

Silverline Technologies, an India-based company involved in software
development, has a subsidiary at 10210 N. 25th Ave., where it employs about
100 people, mainly Indian nationals along with some Americans. The firm's
U.S. headquarters is in New Jersey.

A Silverline worker in Phoenix, speaking anonymously, said she hasn't been
paid in six weeks, and her dental and medical benefits have been cut.

Many of the employees at the Phoenix facility work on American Express' Web
site. Amex has relied on outsourcing firms to pick up the slack as it
reduces its own workforce. Chairman and CEO Ken Chenault recently told
financial analysts Amex has cut its staff by 14,200, or 16 percent, since
year-end, including 2,700 positions in the second quarter.

Silverline executives didn't return phone calls.

"We pay vendors directly, and they're responsible for paying workers," said
American Express spokeswoman Aiessa Moyna.

Silverline has not released financial reports for the past two quarters. The
most recent results, which are unaudited, show the firm lost $5.6 million on
revenue of $41.6 million for the quarter ended Dec. 31.

An "open letter" from Chairman Ravi Subramanian on Silverline's Web site
discusses an "acute emphasis on cost control" and need to shift work to
offshore locations. Silverline has facilities in India, Egypt and the United
States. Besides American Express, Silverline lists Ford Motor, J.P. Morgan
Chase, Verizon, Volkswagen and the World Bank as clients.

Intelligroup, a New Jersey technology firm that is suing Silverline and the
Phoenix subsidiary for unpaid debts, recently recorded an $8.4 million
charge over the matter.

Silverline acquired the subsidiary, SeraNova Inc., in 2000. Intelligroup
claims Silverline has failed to make required principal and interest
payments for more than a year.
